Dear Hockey of Tomorrow reader,

NFL star Eli Manning drops puck with daughters at PHF game

It's no secret we're seeing mainstream eyes finally turning to women's sports and women's hockey more particularly. Just yesterday, one of football's top icons dropped the puck with his daughters at a women's hockey game.

This is significant for several reasons, the biggest one being: Eli's daughters are both hockey players and he is hell-bent on making sure the sport they so dearly love grows and gives them space to grow as young women.

We've seen him be very vocal on social media about his daughters love of the game but this is really going out of his way to support women's hockey on the mainstream stage.

Wouldn't be surprised if he becomes a PHF or PWHPA franchise owner sooner rather than later...

This designer is trying to revolutionize Para Hockey

Meet Erik Jamison-Ekeling, a young industrial designer hailing from the University of Minnesota. Erik has been focused on addressing accessibility issues that Sled/Para Hockey players face when they are at the rink, specifically when they are getting on and off the ice.

As part of my project, I developed works-like prototypes, which allowed players to get from where they were putting their gear on, to the rink entrance, and onto the ice by themselves. The players and parents that were there providing feedback loved what they saw and how easy it was compared to what the process looks like right now.

The product, in its early prototyping phase, has gotten recognition from the University of Minnesota, both in the form of a grant to continue prototyping, as well as an award for the best beta prototype. It has a goal of increasing accessibility and independence at hockey rinks for Sled Hockey players.

To make this dream a reality, Erik has started a Kickstarter project and is looking to raise at least $5,000 to consult with engineers, develop a larger scale manufacturing plan, and bring this project closer to reality.

Please contribute if you can, or at the very least, share it so it gets some reach!

Herb Carnegie's wheels

CCM has created a new custom skate to honour Herb Carnegie, Hockey's first black Canadian star, and WOW do they look absolutely FIRE.

The vintage branding clashes just perfectly with the high end modern shaping of the boot. It's a perfect metaphor for the past ( and still arguably present) racial clash within hockey that stopped Herb from ever making the NHL.

Are they for sale, you ask? Unfortunately not...or at least, not yet!

That’s it for this edition of the Hockey of Tomorrow newsletter. As we continue to highlight the best, most diverse, and most interesting, off-ice hockey stories, we would appreciate any feedback you might have.

Thanks again for reading this edition of Hockey of Tomorrow.
